Remember that sweet surprise I mentioned earlier this week? Here she is:
Introducing the newest member of our family: Leela, or as I affectionately call her, Captain Leela Bear.
The last time I adopted a puppy, it was kind of a haphazard decision made in the spur of the moment. That's not to say that I regret it, because I don't - you guys know I love Nixon. But the decision to adopt Leela was made over the course of weeks, and had to take into consideration a number of factors, including Nixon, and, of course, Dan.
Luckily, Dan has wanted a German Shepherd FOREVER, and we had been talking for months about getting a companion for Nixon. So an accidental litter of German Shepherd / Labrador mixes on a friend's uncle's ranch was a perfect opportunity for us to add to our family.
We met my friend Megan's brother in Livingston, where he had brought along the females of the litter for us to pick from. There were two little white girls and one black one, but Leela was the only one who didn't shake at the mere sight of Dan and I. And as soon as Dan picked her up and she proceeded to pee all over him, we knew she had to be the one.
So now she's here! Snuggling with Nixon ...
Helping Daddy do the dishes ...
And eating my fingers. (Apparently, they're very delicious. Who knew?)
We're so excited to have her here and watch her grow up as part of our family. And of course, you guys will get to watch her grow along with us, because you know I can't resist posting furbaby pictures to the blog.
Now if only we could get her to stop pooping in the kitchen.
